Brutalist Plaza Gomila
by GRAS Reynés + MVDRV

Subject
Plaza Gomila Neighbourhood, Mallorca
The aim of Project Gomila is to revive the areas surrounding El Terreno’s Plaça Gomila, a district that slipped into decline despite its history as a cultural hotspot frequented by musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Tom Jones in the 1960s and 70s.

Las Fabri-Casas sit at the heart of Project Gomila, facing the renewed Plaça Gomila—once a nightlife magnet for Hendrix-era crowds, later left to drift. The building channels the playful geometry that ties the neighbourhood to Camper’s design legacy. The blue volume stands out without shouting, giving the district a clearer sense of intent: colour as structure, not spectacle.

Can Pa - Jasper Morrison & Huge

Subject
Plaza Gomila Neighbourhood, Mallorca
Can Pa sits opposite Fabri-Casas, balancing Morrison’s quiet rigor with Huguet’s deep Mallorcan craft. The red contrast with custom terrazo furniture produced using traditional local techniques, gives the bakery its identity without decoration. The geometric forms feel natural to the streetscape—calm, soft-spoken, and designed to make you pause. Esment, the social foundation running the bakery, adds a civic layer: design used not just to shape a space, but to support meaningful employment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Gomila Center

Subject
Plaza Gomila Neighbourhood, Mallorca
Gomila Center anchors the quarter’s mixed-use revival, part of the broader effort by MVRDV and GRAS Reynés to re-stitch the area’s civic life. The cluster of seven buildings is designed to bring residents, visitors, and small businesses back into daily contact. It’s an urban fix rooted in walkability, compact living, and a palette that signals optimism rather than nostalgia.

Plaza Gomila Neighbourhood, Mallorca
In 2023, MVRDV and GRAS Reynés completed seven mixed-use buildings that reintroduce colour, structure, and identity to the neighbourhood, drawing on the playful logic of Camper’s design language.

Las Casitas — Street Life & Neighbourhood Rhythm

Subject
Plaza Gomila Neighbourhood, Mallorca
Las Casitas shows the project’s intention in motion. People passing the red façade, neighbours lingering at corners, and the quiet shuffle between home and workplace give the area its renewed tempo. The architecture frames this activity without forcing it; designed to welcome everyday life back into a part of Palma that had long slipped from the city’s attention.
